STONE FEATURE – QUARTZITE

Granite would generally be one go-to when thinking about durable kitchen surfaces, but quartzite is the ultimate stone when it comes to strength and durability. Measuring in at a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness (which ranges from 1-10, and granite is measured at 6-6.5), it is the perfect material for high-use areas such as the kitchen benchtops, staircase, flooring, and even roof tiles!

Being extremely resistant to bacteria, quartzite should also be considered when weighing up what material to use in a bathroom. Because of its low porosity, unlike marble, it doesn’t require sealing. This is, however, dependent on its use.
