Slab Inventory

The price of natural stone slabs is influenced primarily by two factors: the rarity of the colour and the difficulty of fabrication.

‍Rare colours command higher prices. Some marbles, such as Calacatta Borghini, are particularly valuable because of how difficult it is to find flawless blocks. Premium slabs can exceed $10,000.

Stones that are harder to cut or process also cost more. This may be due to high hardness or brittleness, which can slow down production or require repairs during fabrication.

On average natural stone slabs are between $3,500 to $5,000 per slab. However, some can exceed $15,000 depending on size and rarity.

Quartzite and granite are generally considered the most durable natural stones.

‍However, it is important to understand that not all quartzites are equally durable. Some quartzites can stain as easily as marble, and some marbles can resist scratching nearly as well as quartzite.

Natural stone is a beautiful but complex material. At Gitani Stone, we believe it should be respected as a natural product. Expecting a stone slab to never scratch or stain over time is unrealistic.

If that is the expectation, an engineered stone alternative may be more appropriate. Many of our own homes feature marble benchtops, and we enjoy the antique patina that develops over time with use.

Marble is commonly associated with Italy, however, Gitani Stone also sources exceptional marble from Turkey, China and Spain.

‍Quartzite is found primarily in Brazil. The Brazilian stone industry is experiencing rapid growth, driven by increasing global demand for quartzite. A well-known example is Taj Mahal Quartzite, which is mined from a Brazilian quarry.

‍Gitani Stone also operates local quarries in Australia. We are emerging as pioneers in the Australian quarrying industry for decorative marble and granite slabs. Our marble quarry is located in Chillagoe, Queensland, and our granite quarry is in Moruya, New South Wales.
